New allegations against Odila Castillo denied by legal team

On October 1st, the legal representatives of Odila Castillo Bonilla released an official rebuttal to the allegations circulated by multiple Panamanian news sources. These reports have been described as deliberate assaults motivated by distinct economic agendas, aiming to tarnish Castillo’s professional standing and personal character.

Carlos Carillo, a member of Castillo’s legal team, stated: “The allegations are baseless and aim to obstruct the career of a young attorney, as well as that of her partner, for the advantage of concealed economic interests.”

The Advocacy for Odila Castillo

The defense highlighted that this is not the first occurrence of media hostility faced by Castillo. In 2021, a Panamanian news source inaccurately claimed that the lawyer had been arrested in relation to an investigation—a statement that was later refuted, clarifying that it had no connection to the current issues.

At the press conference, the defense claimed that both the recent accusations and those from 2021 are based on half-truths, intended to compromise her professional career.

Furthermore, they contended that the information circulated about Odila Castillo in the media violates the principles of confidentiality. They clarified that part of the investigation stemmed from a previously concluded family matter, while another aspect involves migratory movements and tax declarations, among other data obtained unlawfully.

Unlawful Monitoring of Odila Castillo

The defense additionally claimed that Castillo has been the target of GPS tracking, which represents a form of illicit surveillance.

Carrillo wrapped up by stating: “The essential rights of our client have been infringed upon, as protected by our Constitution and legal framework. We will pursue all necessary legal measures to determine accountability for the harm suffered and any potential harm that may arise.”
